The Laonong River (Liling) Subsurface Water Turnkey Project, undertaken by KTI, marked its completion with a ceremony on October 17, 2026. Premier Cho Jung-tai presided over the commissioning ceremony. The completed project provides an important backup water source for southern Taiwan and demonstrates KTI’s expertise in water infrastructure planning, construction, and systems integration.

Designed with a water intake capacity of 100,000 metric tons per day, the project connects to the Nanhua–Gaoping Interconnection Pipeline to strengthen regional water allocation and mutual support. With the addition of the Laonong River project, the combined subsurface water supply capacity of the Gaoping River system has increased to 900,000 metric tons per day. This further strengthens the “String of Pearls” water supply network, providing a more reliable water supply for communities and industrial development across southern Taiwan.

During construction, the project team faced challenges including high groundwater levels and complex existing underground utilities. Through underwater operations, careful construction planning, and coordination among the organizations involved, the team overcame site challenges while maintaining construction quality and workplace safety. The intake facilities also incorporate lift gates and removable pumps to improve the safety and ease of future maintenance, addressing both construction requirements and long-term operational needs.

As extreme weather events and industrial water demand place growing pressure on water resources, reliable water supply and diversified water sources are becoming increasingly important. KTI has long been committed to water infrastructure development, building integrated capabilities spanning pipe manufacturing, water transmission and distribution pipelines, and water treatment projects. The completion of this project represents an important achievement in the company’s contribution to public water infrastructure and reflects the collective efforts of the project authority and all participating teams.

Looking ahead, KTI will continue to draw on its technical expertise, construction quality, and safety management capabilities to support the development of diversified water sources and water supply infrastructure. Through these efforts, the company aims to help build a more reliable and resilient water supply for Taiwan, supporting regional development and industrial sustainability.
